About our Schools

School Background
We are a privately-held company with schools in Powell, Dublin, Lewis Center, and Hilliard, Ohio. Our first store, the Powell Academy of Music, opened in 2008 and our second location, the Lewis Center Music Academy, opened in June, 2017. Our third location opened in Hilliard in June of 2020. In 2022 we purchased First Choice Music Studio in Dublin, Ohio and then rebranded all four locations under the name Foundations Music Academy. We are the largest private music school in Columbus, OH and one of the fastest growing in the midwest. As a company that is locally owned and operated by music professionals, we understand the obstacles, frustrations, rewards, and challenges that teachers face every day when striving to provide top-notch educational services to their students.

In nearly 20 years in music education, we have built a set of systems that keep our faculty's time on teaching instead of paperwork, and we keep developing them.

About Our Director
Citing his family as his biggest musical influence, and coming from 4 generations of professional musicians, Chad started his musical education at 3 years old. He began his college training at the age of 16, in Jazz Studies as a Pianist and has also studied under Jazz legend Tony Monaco. In addition to his training in Jazz piano he has studied classical technique in the Taubman Method and is one of only a handful of pianists in Ohio that teach the technique. He is the author of The Music Parent's Handbook (a guide for parents of music students). As a member of the National Piano Guild and the Music Teachers National Association he is dedicated to providing high quality music education in a fun environment.

Why Teach With Us?

Teaching on your own has a real upside: you keep everything you charge. No rent, no front desk, no advertising budget to fund. The downside is everything else.

Filling a schedule is slow and expensive. Referrals take time even when you are good, ads cost money, and driving between students eats hours you could have spent teaching. Then there is collections. Chasing payments is nobody's idea of a good evening, and enforcing an attendance policy on your own is harder still. A family leaves for Disney World for two weeks, you cannot fill that slot on short notice, and you either have the awkward conversation or you eat the loss. A couple of times a month and it adds up.

Teaching at a school trades a lower rate per student for a schedule that stays full. Ten or eleven students a day at our rate beats a half-full week at yours, and our teachers keep their studios through the summer instead of losing half of them in June. You get a professional room with no doorbells, no TV and nobody wandering through. You teach, we handle the rest.

A full schedule, year-round

Students move and quit all year, and that leaves holes in a teacher's schedule. Most schools only advertise in late August and September. We advertise year-round and spend six figures a year on it, across search, social, direct mail and community publications. That is why we are still enrolling in May and June, when everyone else has gone quiet.

You only have to teach

Every location has full-time front desk staff on site from 9:00am to 9:00pm. They handle scheduling, billing, fee collection, accompanists and recital planning. You will never reschedule a lesson, chase a payment or book a venue. You teach. They handle the rest.

You get paid either way

You are paid for every late cancel, trial lesson and no-show. If a family stops paying or the debt is uncollectible, you are still paid. Your teaching day is yours.

Recitals and Performances

Two student recitals a year. We do the planning and cover every cost, from the printed programs to the sound system at the venue.

What our teachers are saying

“I love the support I feel from the management and the friendship and encouragement I receive from the other teachers. I not only have a job that I love, I have a community around me that helps me be the best teacher and musician I can be.”
Katrina Cortes · Piano Teacher
“This is an outstanding place to teach. The combination of a positive work environment and a commitment to education gives teachers the ability to provide students with the education that they deserve.”
Matthew West · Guitar Teacher
